About us
CAD 5-19 Support Team (Children and Adults with Disabilities 5-19 Support Team) is a team of Advisory Teachers, Educational Psychologists, Occupational Therapists and Communication and Interaction Education Advisors ( former Specialist Assistants – Speech, Language and Social Communication) supporting children and young people with a range of disabilities in pre-school settings, schools and post-16 placements. The team includes the SLSCS (Speech, Language and Social Communication Service) working collaboratively with the Speech and Language Therapy team, NELFT.
About the job
The CAD 5-19 Support Team is seeking to appoint a Communication and Interaction Education Advisor to support pupils with speech, language and/or social communication needs in schools and settings. The appointee will work as part of the SLSCS under the direction of the Manager of the 5-19 Support Team alongside a team of Advisory Teachers.
The role will involve
- direct work and advice including observations, modelling interventions and skilling up staff.
- supporting and co-leading training.
- indirect, consultancy based multi agency working with schools and parents.
About you
The post holder will be responsible for providing advice, support and training for schools working with children and young people with speech, language and social communication needs and /or associated behaviours. The post holder will contribute to integrated practice across Health and Education, increasing the quality of practice and confidence of practitioners to meet the needs of children with SLCN/complex needs.
This will include
- Leading and implementing training, quality first teaching and best practise, to raise standards and outcomes for students with speech, language and social communication needs and/or associated behaviours in schools/ pre schools / colleges.
- Providing expert advice and support to schools/pre-schools on implementation of speech, language and social communication recommendations, including leading training, modelling and speech and language intervention programmes.
The appointee must demonstrate a commitment to providing a high quality service, in collaboration with other professionals, to enable children and young people to make progress through mainstream and special school education, with an ability for reflective practise, identification of needs, provision, target setting and skill development to support functional, social and academic learning.
The post offers the opportunity for joint working to embed effective intervention to ensure positive outcomes for students and young people with additional needs.
The appointee must have experience of working with pupils with speech, language and social communication needs and / or associated behaviours. Experience of leading and delivering a range of interventions, programmes, strategies and resources will be beneficial.
The appointee will be supported to work closely with a team of communication and interaction education advisors and advisory teachers developing work in mainstream (primary and secondary) and special schools.
It would be desirable, however, not essential for the appointee to have an interest in developing the use of Augmentative and Alternative technology and implementing a range of devices and software to remove barriers to learning.
The appointee must demonstrate capacity for a positive, solution focused approach with clear commitment to enabling children and young people to fully participate in all aspects of school experience.
Applicants must be able to work independently, managing their diary and liaising with colleagues and schools/ settings to create positive working relationships.
