Havering Adult College are now looking to recruit a full-time Specialist Teacher Assessor to join a dynamic Adult College , who will plan, deliver and assess on a range of new and established courses for Teaching Assistants and other education professionals.

Havering Adult College offers a wide range of courses in a variety of subjects and venues across the Borough to learners aged 16+. The role includes teaching across a range of academic levels in the area of Education and Training, of which our Level 2 and Level 3 Teaching Assistant provision forms a large part, as does undertaking work-based assessments of teaching practice on teacher training qualifications. You will have responsibility for planning, delivering and assessing on a range of new and established courses and learning opportunities with a variable number of teaching hours in your specialist curriculum area as apart of your full time role. Specialist Teacher Assessors also provide mentoring support for new sessional teachers, and undertake formal internal quality assurance monitoring as directed to support the work of the wider team.

You will have an understanding of Equality and Diversity, and an appreciation of the requirements of teachers under the Safeguarding of Children & Vulnerable Adults regulations.

The successful candidate should hold the following essential criteria:

Demonstrable experience of teaching and assessing (including work-place assessments in situ) on Teaching Assistant courses, as well as experience of working on their own initiative within established guidelines is essential. Being able to respond flexibly to change is also essential.

It is essential that you hold a Level 5 post-compulsory teaching qualification (PGCE , Cert Ed , DET or equivalent), an assessors qualification at Level 4 (TAQA or equivalent) and have recent experience of working in schools as either a teacher or a Teaching Assistant.  In the case of an exceptional applicant, we would consider someone prepared to work towards, and complete, their Assessor qualification within six months.

It would be useful for the candidate to also have the following desirable criteria:

  • Experience of Internal quality assurance across a range of awarding institutions
  • Have access to a vehicle with business use insurance
  • Have experience of mentoring and supporting inexperienced teachers

You must have the ability to work on your own initiative and have extensive knowledge and skills related to the area(s) of work you will be undertaking, specifically engaging with stakeholders, engaging with the public as well as an ability to manage your time and calendar effectively.
