About Us

Havering is in the process of becoming a centre of excellence for systemic practice, social work, and innovative collaborative practice. We are focussed on becoming one of the most exciting, interesting and rewarding Boroughs in London to practice in. We are Ofsted graded ‘Good’ and have a permanent senior management team in post providing strong stable leadership.

Havering is also a teaching borough and we have our very own Havering Social Care Academy (HSCA). HSCA is for all Havering social care staff working with children, adults, their families, carers and the wider community. The Academy will provide staff with access to training, a research hub, and opportunities for career progression, as part of our commitment to grow and develop our workforce.

Applications will be considered from qualified Family Therapist, and we do encourage newly qualified Family Therapist to apply.  You must hold a qualification in Family Therapy to (or equivalent) masters level and be registered, or eligible for registration, with the UKCP. A social work qualification would be desirable. You must also have a valid DBS. Start dates will be considered upon either successful checks for qualified Family Therapists or upon successful registration for newly qualified Family Therapists.

Our Face to Face Model of Practice (https://www.havering.gov.uk/f2f) is underpinned by a systemic approach and we aim to be purposeful, planned and focused in everything we do. Our Leadership Team has been committed to working systemically for a number of years, which shows in our training offer and practice development pathways for our staff. In addition to direct work with families and in supervision, we have introduced systemic thinking and practices in our structures and processes such as group case discussions, new style CP Conferences, reflective spaces, peer-led trainings and audit moderations.

We have a team of six family therapists lead by a Head of Systemic and Clinical Practice. The Team is embedded across Children Social Care, in our Integrated Adolescent Safeguarding Service and within the Early Help Services. Opportunities to think and practise systemically as a family therapist in Havering Children’s Services are manifold and creativity is encouraged. Social Care Staff are welcoming the input from the clinicians and seeing the benefits of our relational, strengths-based approach for the families we work with. Part of your work will be aimed at staff support and skill development.
