Bereavement Services currently has a vacancy for a flexible and caring individual who can help us provide a high quality service to the bereaved. You will have the good interpersonal and customer care skills and previous experience of helping people in a sensitive situation. You will be expected to work to the industry Codes of Practice to strict deadlines. The successful applicant will undertake a programme of training and have a qualification bar until this is completed.
As part of a team, you will assist in the process of cremation including routine maintenance of the cremators and all associated equipment. Once qualified you will carry out cremations in accordance with industry Codes of Practice, strict procedures and legal requirements. You will carry out chapel attendant duties, burial of cremated remains, gardening, basic administration and general maintenance duties within the crematorium. You will assist with the fixing of plaques and the installation of memorials. You will have the ability to take control of unexpected situations and take action to ensure funerals run smoothly. You will be required to study for and obtain the cremator manufacturers certificate of competency and the crematorium technicians training scheme, CTTS or the FBCA test scheme.
All posts at the Cemeteries and Crematorium Service work as part of a team to complete this vital work. You will be expected to work flexibly to provide cover for other posts and take part in working parties to improve the service. Occasional weekend work and overtime will be required in addition to the standard 36-hour week.
